Q. How can I avoid having to put the CD in the drive to use Final Draft?
 A.
With FD V7 if you do not Activate the software, it will stop working after 15 days.
Version 7 will not run unactivated after 15 days, even with the CD in the drive.
With FD V6 if you AUTHORISE the software, you will not need the CD to run the program.
Q. How do I activate/authorise my hard drive to run Final Draft?
A.
You will be prompted to ACTIVATE or AUTHORISE as you install the program. If you miss
this step for some reason, open Final Draft with the CD in the drive,
go to the Help Menu and Choose "Activate or Authorise" Follow the prompts.
Q. Final Draft Version 6 will not let me Save or Save As.
A.
First check the Version of Final Draft you have - look for "About
Final Draft" in the Apple Menu (Mac) or Help Menu (Windows). If you
do not have V 6.0.6 go to Updates on the bar above and download the free
updater to 6.0.6.
If you still
cannot Save, DEAUTHORISE (Help Menu). Then put the Final Draft Folder
in the Trash and empty it. Then reinstall by dragging the contents of
the CD to the Applications or Programs Folder on your Hard Drive. Run
the updater and you should now be able to Save.
Q. I have installed Final Draft on my Mac and it will not open.
A.
Prior to Mac OS 10 you need to install a file named Carbon Lib in order
to run Final Draft Version 6. You will find the Carbon Lib installer on
your FD
CD-ROM in a Folder named "Extras".
Q. How many times can I install Final Draft?
A.
Final Draft is sold as a ONE PERSON licence. You can Authorise two hard
drives (e.g. Home and Office or Office and LapTop) for your own use. You
may not share the software with another person.
Q. How do I import scripts written in MS Word (or other word processors)
into Final Draft?
A.
Use the following steps: NB: Do NOT Cut and Past into Final Draft.
Open the
file in the word processor.
Remove any scene numbers
Remove anything before the first scene (Title Page, Sources, etc).
Ensure the first text is EXT. or INT.
Choose Save As and select File Type Text Only
Ensure a .txt file is created.
Open Final Draft and choose Open from the File Menu.
Locate and select the .txt file you just created.
When prompted choose Format as a Script.
Any problems, choose Reformat from the Tools Menu.
NB If you
have used Style Sheets in Microsoft Word you may get a better result creating
Rich Text Format (.rtf) rather than a Text Only file.
Q. I'm not on the internet. How do I activate/authorize my Hard Drive?
A.
Once Final Draft is installed, leave the CD-ROM in the drive and open
the program. Go to the Help Menu and Choose Activate or Authorise. In the next Window
select Manual Authorisation. A Challenge Code will be created. Then call
the number in the USA. Remember to add 0011 1 before the number. Insert
the requested information and a Response Code will be generated. Enter
this code and your Hard Disk will be actiavted/authorized.
Q. Why do I need to Activate/Authorise my Hard Drive?
A.
With FD V7 unless you Activate, the software will stop running after 15 days.
While you can run Final Draft V6 with the CD-ROM in the drive it is not a
good idea. It is not good for the drive and you may damage the CD-ROM.
We have to charge you a replacement fee if you damage the CD.
